I.     Introduction and Review (2Corinthians 2:11)

A.   We are studying the Book of Genesis, verse by verse

B.   The Beginning, Creation, Life, Adam, Eve, the First Wedding, Paradise!

C.   We are in Chapter 3

1.    The Serpent strikes – deceptively, subtily, destructively

2.    Let’s learn about Satan’s methods / devices that he uses to ruin lives – his tools

3.    2Corinthians 2:11  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. [WE SHOULD NOT BE IGNORANT OF HOW HE WORKS]

4.    And learn from Eve’s deception and entrapment, so you and I don’t fall for Satan’s lies as well!

5.    And discover that the First Adam failed miserably to handle temptation. But the Second Adam was perfect and stayed the course, so He could save all of Adam’s race!

II.   Message

A.   The Tempter (Genesis 3:1)

1.    Adam and Eve are both doing their own things in the garden – they are not together at this moment

2.    God is quiet at this moment – He has to let Eve face temptation

3.    And that was when some-THING stepped into view, and walked right up to Eve…

4.    A Walking, Talking Serpent (3:1)

a.     Genesis 3:1  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

b.    Yes, a real, live, sneaky snake

c.     But, This is no ordinary snake – it is unique as we shall see!

d.    It is SOMEONE disguised as a serpent

e.     This is Satan, the devil, Lucifer, disguised as a beautiful serpent that walked and talked, and seemed to make a lot of sense!

1)    He is NOT as he seems (2Corinthians 11:14)  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

2)    He always wears a MASK – always a liar; is not who he seems to be!

3)    Revelation 12:9  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

f.     This serpent is possessed, inhabited by Satan himself – simply used to destroy Eve and ultimately Adam

5.    He's Very Subtle (3:1)

a.     Genesis 3:1  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made…

b.    That means he was SO careful, so wise, cunning, crafty

c.     Like a snake in the grass, approaching its target – you don’t hear it coming!

d.    Satan knows exactly what he is doing…

e.     Did you notice that this serpent walks up to Eve?

1)    He targets her, not Adam!

2)    Because Adam would have kicked him into orbit if he had tried to talk with him against God, and called God a liar!

3)    Again, Adam and Eve are not together at this moment

4)    Eve is on her own

f.     The Serpent meets Eve right next to one of the trees in the Garden of Eden – the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and sets a TRAP

B.   The Trap (Genesis 3:1-6)

1.    Asks Eve about Her Freedom (3:1)

a.     Genesis 3:1  And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

b.    He asks if she was truly “free” to eat of every tree

1)    “Did God not say you can be eating from EVERY tree in this beautiful garden?”

2)    “Are you free to do as you please?” “Do you really have free will?”

c.     He wasn’t asking about any of the 100 other fruit trees in the Garden that she freely ate from every day…

d.    Satan was focusing her attention on the only tree she was not allowed to eat from

1)    This special tree was right in the middle of the garden of Eden, next to another tree called the Tree of Life

2)    It was a beautiful tree, full of leaves, and branches and amazing looking fruit

e.     He was tempting her to eat from a tree that would give her an understanding of what Good and Evil is

1)    All her short life so far, she has experienced only GOOD

2)    Satan was tempting her to experience EVIL now

3)    By eating from a tree that she was not ready to eat from YET!

2.    Listen to Eve’s response (Genesis 3:2,3)

a.     Genesis 3:2,3  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

b.    That’s strange. God never said anything about not touching the fruit

c.     He said, just don’t EAT of it

d.    She and Adam are GARDENERS, so they will have to touch it at some point

3.    Did you notice the progression?

a.     First Satan instils DOUBT in Eve about what God SAID

1)    That is his favourite past-time – creating doubt

2)    Matthew 4:1-3  Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

b.    Then Eve exaggerates what God said. “We can’t even touch it! No, no! It must be POISON!”

c.     Next, we will see them both decide to throw out what God has said! Think they don’t have to obey it, and it is out-dated, or irrelevant

d.    And that’s when Eve will decide to “follow her heart”!

e.     Which is the WORST thing you can do!

f.     Jeremiah 17:9  The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

4.    Satan is a LIAR (3:4,5)

a.     Genesis 3:4  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

b.    Did you notice that Satan calls GOD a liar?! “Ye shall NOT surely die!

c.     And then Satan tells her a complete and utter falsehood:

1)    Genesis 3:5  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

2)    What a grand promise!

d.    He was lying the entire time

e.     And people still believe him instead of God!

5.    What Satan stirs in us... So, what is Satan trying to stir up in Eve’s heart?

a.     Distrust towards God. Unwilling to trust His words

1)    Psalm 18:30  As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

2)    Psalm 34:8  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

3)    Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

b.    Discontentment – ungrateful for all they had!

1)    Do you realise that the fundamental sin of mankind is unthankfulness?

2)    Romans 1:21  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

3)    2Timothy 3:2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy

c.     Independence from God – to not need to do things HIS way – rebellion

d.    Anger at God for holding back on what would make her great – make her a god

e.     NONE of that was there before the devil came along

f.     Well, they are part of us all NOW!

g.    And why was Satan doing all this?

1)    To bring death into this world

2)    To ruin God’s design and plan for this world

3)    Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

h.    Eve has become comfortable thinking and reasoning and feeling her way through temptation without God’s influences – didn’t pray at all!

C.   Eve is Hooked! (3:6) Like a fish

1.    She believes Satan instead of God!

a.     Genesis 3:6  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

b.    She looked and examined the fruit on that tree

c.     Looked healthy “saw that the tree was good for food

d.    Looked delicious “it was pleasant to the eyes

e.     It looked like the smart thing to do “a tree to be desired to make one wise” – thought it would be the best decision of her life

f.     How could it be so wrong, when it seems SO RIGHT?

2.    So, she took and ate the fruit

a.     She reached out and touched the fruit

b.    And then plucked it from a branch, and tasted the fruit

c.     And… she didn’t die!

d.    She didn’t even get sick – it was delicious just like all the other fruits

e.     So, it wasn’t poisonous

f.     God didn’t mean it when He said they would surely die!

g.    The serpent was RIGHT! (Or so she thought!)

3.    And she HAD to go and get her husband to enjoy the fruit as well – this is how Satan TRAPPED Adam

a.     She has made up her own mind…

b.    And then the mind of her husband “and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

c.     It does not say, “and gave also unto her husband who was with her

d.    Adam was NOT with Eve during the temptation

e.     But she wanted him WITH her in the sin

f.     And Adam made the worst choice – he was not tricked, deceived, beguiled

1)    He made a choice – a wrong choice

2)    He chose to obey the voice of his wife, instead of the word of God

3)    He chose his wife, over His relationship with his God

D.   Question: How does eating some fruit give you knowledge?

1.    Easy. God set a boundry – a limit. He said don’t eat this one fruit.

2.    The fruit was not poisonous. It was NOT deadly to eat

3.    The poison was in the choice to do wrong. When they disobeyed God’s command – and broke His one law…

4.    That gave them the experience of evil – they now knew what sin was

5.    EXAMPLE: The first time I stole some chewing gum. For others it wa the first time they took money from their parents room.  Or told a big lie…

E.   This is Still Happening! Satan is still entrapping people, all day, every day!

1.    2Corinthians 11:3,4  But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

2.    Still using every means possible to tempt, and trap, and ruin lives!

3.    Especially our MINDS!

a.     By getting us so upset all the time – aggitated

b.    Getting people unhappy – discontent with all the goodness of God around them

c.     Confusing people, and not trusting God

4.    People are still being deceived into thinking there are better religions, better philosophies, better saviours, better spirits, better gospels, better bibles

a.     So, people go to churches where there is a huge staff, and loads of money

b.    Go where all the women are the focus of every message

c.     Go where there are plenty of activities and events to keep people happy

d.    Attend churches where no one is offended… except God!

5.    But there is nothing better, nothing more powerful and life changing that the simplicity of Christ Jesus filling someone’s life!

6.    And there is nothing safer than a church that just believes EVERY word of this Bible! Never changing, doubting, correcting ONE WORD, ever!

F.    The Trauma (Genesis 3:7)

1.    Genesis 3:7  And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

2.    They were blind before. But now things had visibly changed.

3.    And what they saw, disturbed them – traumatized them

a.     Their public nakedness was a shock to them

1)    Up until this point, they had probably been clothed with light, but now they were dark. There was no glow. There's just naked flesh.

2)    All they worried about was their flesh, their bodies

b.    At that very moment, something in them died

1)    They didn’t know what it was, but something inside them had died!

2)    It was their spirit. The very part of us designed and given to us by God to be able to walk with God with

3)    Only the Spirit of God can regenerate what Satan murdered

a)    Titus 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

b)    Ephesians 2:1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

c)    Ephesians 2:5  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

4)    Adam and Eve had been created not just as physical beings, but with a soul and with a spirit.

5)    James 1:12-15 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

6)    Three kinds of death – more in a minute…

4.    They quickly gathered together some fig leaves and sewed them together into aprons, frantically trying to cover their guilt.

5.    It would never work! Drink won’t drown it, drugs won’t help it… Only God can!

G.   Then Without Warning, came the Reckoning – the Trial (Genesis 3:8,9)

1.    Genesis 3:8,9  And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

2.    God came looking for them and especially for Adam

a.     Where was Adam?

1)    God knew where Adam was.

2)    But, ADAM needed to know where he was.

3)    So God called out his name. It echoed throughout the entire garden.

b.    He was hiding from God.

c.     Why?

d.    Because Adam was afraid - and he should have been. He felt guilty. He was hurt, traumatized by what Satan had done to them.

e.     He was huddled with his wife in fear of what God would do

f.     He hastily covered himself in fig leaves because he was ashamed, and hoped God would NOT notice that he and Eve had changed

3.    These two had fallen and they had lost just about everything. We call this “The Fall”

a.     They had lost their fellowship with God

b.    They had lost the glory and the joy of life

c.     They had lost a clean conscience. Now full of guilt. That's why this time is called the time of innocence

d.    And they had lost access to the tree of life

4.    God could have just walked away and let everything collapse – but he didn’t leave

H.   The Opportunity to Come Clean – to be Honest, was MISSED (Genesis 3:9-13)

1.    Genesis 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

2.    Adam Made Excuses (3:10-12)

a.     Genesis 3:10-12  And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

b.    Now came the time of the blaming. This is the exact opposite of repentance. Adam was so quick to blame. He was answering verse 11, “Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

c.     He should have said:

1)    “Yes. I did.” “Well, actually WE did.”

2)    He should have said, “but don't blame my wife. Blame me.”

3)    He should have come out from hiding and accepted the consequences and sacrificed his life for hers.

4)    Remember, God had said in Genesis 2:17 “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

d.    But instead Adam pointed at the woman and said:

1)    “That woman!”

2)    “The gift you gave me, Lord. It is kind of your fault.”

3)    “She disobeyed first, and yes, I did eat, I disobeyed.”

4)    But only because of that woman you put in my life Lord!

e.     Adam has NO excuse.

1)    Now it's very, very important that you understand that God was not to be blamed at all.

2)    Adam and Eve had freely chosen to disobey God’s simple commandment

3)    His sin was his choice. As it is with all of us, yet we always hold back on admitting our part in sin. It is hard to be brutally honest about our sins. Why couldn't Adam have just humbly said, I have sinned like the Prodigal son did?

4)    Luke 15:17,18  And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

3.    The Woman’s Excuse (3:13)

a.     Genesis 3:13  And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

b.    God moves now to the woman.

c.     She comes out from hiding as well

d.    Covered in leaves – a very strange sight!

e.     God asks her, “What have you done?

f.     She SHOULD have said…

1)    “I have sinned.”

2)    “I disobeyed your clear command.”

3)    “I ate of the fruit you told us not to”

4)    But she didn’t! She could have admitted it and owned it, but she didn't.

g.    She looked for an excuse…

1)    If Adam was there when she sinned, she could have said “My husband didn't stop me.”

2)    “Adam just sat there and let me be deceived”

3)    She could have said “Adam didn't explain your commandments better.”

4)    She could have said “My husband didn't fight off that lying serpent”

5)    But Adam was not there at first

6)    Eve HAD to stand up to the devil herself.

h.    God asks Eve… “What did YOU do wrong? Not what did your husband do wrong, but YOU!”

i.      And she looks around, and blames someone else!

1)    She points God's attention away from herself and says that “the serpent beguiled me”. That “thing” tricked me. And yes, I did eat.

2)    Which is only a partial admittance, partial repentance

3)    But she was blaming and trying to excuse her sin.

j.      The truth is:

1)    Yes, she was deceived, but she was not excused.

2)    Eve was not ignorant of God’s command, or of the consequences

3)    Eve is not innocent.

a)    She disobeyed God’s commandment.

b)    She is part of the transgression.

c)    She has no excuse either.

d)    Even though she was tricked and deceived, she still was going to be judged for her sin, not for her husband's. “The soul that sinneth it shall die.”

k.    Ladies and gentlemen, if you are adults, you cannot blame your sin on your husband, or wife, or the devil, or your parents, or your friends, or your phone, or your past, or your fears…

I.     The Judgment (Genesis 3:14-19) Now, judgment falls… sentence is passed.

1.    The Serpent/Satan is Judged First (Genesis 3:14,15)

a.     Genesis 3:14  And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

b.    God speaks First to the serpent, and he reveals there's more to this snake than just scaly skin.

1)    What did the serpent do wrong?

2)    That serpent had allowed Satan to possess him.

3)    An example would be allowing a bank robber to use your car or a money launderer to use your bank account.

4)    That serpent was cursed to crawl in the dust all its life. No more legs only on its belly eating dust from now on. It would live a life below the cattle and all animals,

5)    Whereas before it could climb trees. It was like a reptile, like a gecko.

6)    So, every time you see a snake crawling, you are seeing God’s judgment on it!

c.     War is Declared!

1)    But beyond that, God declares war against the spirit behind that serpent.

2)    God promises that what Satan had tried to use to destroy life and to destroy God's plan would actually be used one day to save it.

3)    This is the gospel in Genesis.

4)    It is called enmity – conflict – warfare

5)    Genesis 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

6)    This is the very first promise in the Bible and the very first prophecy, and it's all about Jesus defeating the devil.

7)    Two seeds are spoken about:

a)    One is the descendant of the woman – virgin born, the Son of GOD

b)    And the other is the offspring of Satan – the antichrist!

c)    Only one will win. And it won't be Satan.

d)    Because the son of God was going to come and wage war against the future son of Satan – the antichrist, and restore paradise one day!

e)    The war WILL BE FOUGHT AND WON HERE, by Jesus!

f)     Colossians 2:13-15  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

2.    Next, God Passes Judgment on All Women (3:16)

a.     Genesis 3:16  Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

b.    Why would God judge Eve?

1)    Surely God would understand that she was deceived. She was tricked

2)    It’s like when people are scammed online or on the telephone

3)    Wrong was still done. Eve chose to ignore God’s words

4)    She still CHOSE to disobey God’s words – His clear commandment

5)    And so, she was IN the transgression – she sinned!

6)    1Timothy 2:14  And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. [SHE WAS NOT EXEMPT FROM BEING IN TROUBLE]

c.     The Curse on Eve and All Women:

1)    Women will have multiplied sorrows in life.

a)    That's an abundance of emotions.

b)    Eve will have to work hard to manage them as all women will have to. No woman should be in bondage to her emotions.

2)    Multiplied conception – it will be hard to control getting pregnant

a)    God says that women will have their conception multiplied.

b)    Her greatest ability (producing LIFE) will be cursed by sorrow, and pain, and the blessings of birth will be soiled by the sorrows of sin in her children.

3)    She will now be submitted to a flawed husband, no longer as a perfect team, but now struggling to make things work in their marriage.

a)    Submission is not a fun word. And it is usually abused

b)    But a woman's desire is wired into her to long for a man to protect her, and to lead her and their family

c)    but he will fail and every woman will still need God just as much as her husband does.

d)    The man will rule over his wife. That means he will have headship. He will be the leader.

e)    Ephesians 5:22-24  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

f)     Titus 2:4,5  That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

g)    1Peter 3:1  Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives.

d.    So the home has been cursed from the womb outward now.

1)    Children will not be easy to raise.

2)    It will hurt to bring them into this world.

3)    Your relationship with your husband will be hard, and full of obstacles.

4)    So why get married? Why have a home? Why live life at all? Why serve God? why do anything if everything is against us?

5)    Even though there are all of these judgments against having children and against the home, it is still the most blessed place, and God is there more than in the halls of government, more than in the halls of power.

3.    God then passes judgment upon Adam and upon all men (3:17-19)

a.     Genesis 3:17-19  And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

b.    Because Adam hearkened it to the voice of his wife – he did not agree with Satan like Eve had

c.     Because he chose to obey HER instead of God…

d.    Because he chose to do what his wife said instead of what God said…

e.     The ground was and is cursed.

f.     The judgment was upon the work of Adam’s hands

1)    A man will work and work and work. And wear himself out just to put food on the table.

2)    When work used to bring such joy, it will bring sorrow.

3)    Just trying to bring food to the table, man will battle pestilence, storms, blisters, thieves, weeds, thorns, thistles, decay, mold, just to get some herbs and a simple salad with fruit on the table.

4)    He will sweat in the heat of the day. And will collapse in the tiredness of night,

5)    And Adam will do this all his life. He will have little reward for so much work.

g.    Did you notice… their domians?

1)    God designed Eve to be a Mom – to keep her home – to raise children

2)    And God designed Adam to work

3)    That is the pattern.

4)    God has now given us His pattern for marriage (one man, one woman, for life)

5)    The pattern for the home, and the wife and the husband

6)    There are exceptions, but don’t be so quick to break the pattern, and think you can do better!

4.    And then God makes a final judgment on Adam and Eve (3:19)

a.     Genesis 3:19  … till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

b.    God says, you will die now. You'll return to the ground.

1)    You thought you could be god’s, but you are only dust and you will return to dust in a grave.

2)    And death has haunted and hunted mankind ever since

3)    Today, people mock death. They wrap it in coffins with flowers.

4)    They embalm bodies. They create massive tombs and monuments to dead people. But death is still death.

c.     Three Deaths:

1)    The moment Adam and Eve sinned, their spirit died – MUST be regenerated, born again!

2)    And from the moment of this judgment, they were physically dying, heading for a hole in the ground

3)    And without the lamb, they would die forever in hell.

d.    God was and is serious when he says “the wages of sin is DEATH!” (Romans 6:23)

J.    The Best Part – The Gospel (Genesis 3:20,21)

1.    Adam is not defeated. He's not depressed

2.    He is going to live by FAITH now

a.     He speaks now by faith.

b.    He realizes he's not dead yet. He has been given another chance to live!

c.     He still has his wife.

d.    He still has his purpose to glorify and reflect God's glory.

e.     He still can have children and raise them right. And teach them to not repeat the same mistakes and sins he did.

f.     He still can work. He still has his health

g.    And he has one big promise that one day God would repair ALL the damage that sin had brought.

3.    So Adam turns to Eve and he no longer blames her, but instead he honours her with a better name. He calls her “life”

a.     Genesis 3:20  And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

b.    They are now Adam and Eve, not “man and woman”

c.     Adam could have been so depressed, but he decided that life was going to go on even though death was here.

d.    And he admits death is not final. And his wife is not his problem. His own heart is!

4.    God then provides a better covering - LAMBS.

a.     Genesis 3:21  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

b.    An innocent animal (lambs) died in the place of the guilty!

c.     Just as Jesus would die 4,000 years later

d.    Several lambs were killed right in front of Adam and Eve.

e.     Lambs blood was spilled out on that ground in a horrific sight!

f.     Then God tore the skin and the wool from those lambs and actually made coats to cover Adam and Eve. Replacing their fig-leave aprons!

g.    And this was a picture, a symbol of what would happen on a cross, 4,000 years later, when the Lamb of God would come and die in our place, covering OUR sins
